Baramulla, Dec 21 (KNO): Amidst the harsh cold weather, residents of Nowpora Jagir in Baramulla have complained about acute drinking water shortage.
The aggrieved residents as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that despite water supply plant near the village at Shrakwara, they are not getting drinking water.
“Access to clean water is a basic necessity. Despite infrastructure, we are left struggling for quite a long period without water and the authorities concerned are not bothered about the suffering of people,” said a local representative Mohammad Yousuf.
Another resident said they are forced to collect water from nearby Putkha village for their use. The department laid pipes months ago but they are yet to be made functional, he said, adding the water supply plant has been turned into the storage house of pipes.
The concerned Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Marzia said that they are currently facing issues in the rural plant which caters to village.
She said the SR is non-functional because of the technical reason and the repair works on the project is underway.
She continued that the department is supplying the water supply to them during the evening hours after curtailing the schedule for Sopore town. “For a temporary basis to mitigate the crises, they will be shifting the schedule to day time, which will cater the villages,” the official said—(KNO)
